Gratitude: A Wife Who Listens

This evening, I'm grateful to have a wife who listens.

Our days ended at about 9:30. Mine with the Society of Friends, hers with the City Council. When she got home we made some herbal tea and sat by the fire and talked till just a minute ago, about 90 minutes sharing the news of the day and our thoughts about the future.

Now, time for bed.

Wednesday -the middle of the week - has always been my favourite day from when I was about 10 years old.

So this wonderful Wednesday I am grateful for:

* my mum who rang with news of improved health

* my dad who said he'd write up a story about his experience on the Pamir that I can use

* and the telephone - that I can talk to them so easily.

I'm grateful to have a wife who has taught me to listen...not just logistical listening in order to solve problems, but just open listening so I can hear her better.

You're lucky both parents are still alive (and married, it seems). Rare these days.

Listening is something we should do about twice as much as talking, as that's the proportion with which we were endowed with ears and tongue.
