Gratitude: Society of Friends

The gift of the Dharma exceeds all gifts.

This evening I feel deeply grateful to my friends who came this evening to share tea and wisdom: going round the room, where your presence is felt, still: Christain, Louise, Roger, Walter, Sue, Eve, and Richard.

May you be happy, may you be safe, may you be healthy, may you be at ease.

Everything is a gift from God.

Ah! but what is this word called God? what does it mean? Even the Buddha wouldn't be drawn on that!
I suspect that the word is basically meaningless because we really have no idea what it means. When we muse on ulimate things, I think that we are like worms trying to understand the music of Mozart - it is totally beyond us.
If there is an ultimate reality the nature of it is beyond all human concepts, beyond intellect, beyond "God" beyond concepts such as 'love' beyond everything - utterly other!

Alden, I agree that God is far beyond the reach of human intellect. You're right: the Buddha left such speculations to others.

Me too. For me, "God" is not conceptual, but felt. Perhaps I could have more accurately (and succinctly) said, "Everything is a gift."
